Horse gram is a very popular name in India. It is a pulse (also known as Macrotyloma uniflorum) that is widely cultivated and consumed in the country since ancient times. If you did not already know, it is one of the best legumes for weight loss.

Horse gram recipes for weight loss
Here are some easy to do recipes. These are really healthy and can be included in your daily meal plan.
1. The Tasty Horse Gram Soup
- 1 cup horse gram
- 1 tablespoon mustard seeds
- 5-7 curry leaves
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1 tablespoon tamarind juice
- 1 red chili
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
First, you will have to soak the horse gram with 2 cups of water at least for 12 hours, post which you can boil the horse gram until it is cooked. Now, heat the oil in a pan and add in cumin seeds, red chilli, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and tamarind juice. Heat it for about 5-10 mins , after which you need to be adding the cooked horse gram. Add in 2 cups of water and let it boil for 15-20 minutes.
You can consume this soup in the morning for breakfast or for dinner. One bowl of soup is good enough for a day.
2. Boiled Horse Gram
- 1 cup horse gram
- 1 green chilli
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 2 tablespoons finely grated coconut
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
This is one of the best things that you can consume to lose weight fast. To prepare boiled horse gram, you will have to soak the legumes in a bowl filled with water for at least 12 hours. Once the gram is properly soaked, cook it in the morning and discard the excess water. Heat the oil in a pan, add in the grated coconut and chilli and cook for 2 -3 minutes. Now, add in the horse gram, stir and let it cook for 5 minutes post which you can add the lime juice.
It is best to consume it for breakfast as it energizes your body and you will feel full at least for 3 hours.
3. Horse Gram Powder
- 1 bowl of horse gram seeds
- 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds
- 4 tablespoons of split black gram
- 4-5 red chilies
- 1 tablespoon of black peppercorn
First, dry roast the horse gram and split black gram and all the above mentioned ingredients until the raw aroma goes off, Wait for 15 minutes until the ingredients cool down. Now blend them all until they are powdered. Horse gram powder can be consumed at any point of the day. You can mix it with rice and consume during lunch or can make a fruit juice and mix this along.
